SoulCuts Advent Calendar Day 5 – Dianne Reeve – Christmas Time is Here

Listening to Dianne Reeves always reminds me of Christmas. I bought my first Dianne album as a little present to myself (well, my abundant generosity doesn’t stop with other people!) back in ’95, the impeccable Quiet After the Storm, which featured some beautiful songs, particularly the George Duke produced Smile. I’ve subsequently snapped up everything this classy jazz chanteuse has delivered without once being disappointed. Her yuletide offering, Christmas Time is Here from 2004 is no exception and delivers on every level for those looking for some warm vocal jazz for the festive season.

Originally a track from Vince Guaraldi’s A Charlie Brown Christmas, Dianne’s version is a grown-up take on the evocative children’s classic, delivered with all the class, precision and spirit that you’d expect from one of the finest jazz vocalists of the past thirty years.
